Supporting a Growing Global Bottler on its Sustainability Journey from Complexity to Clarity
Global Footprint. Refreshing Commitment.
Swire Coca-Cola Limited (SCC) is the world’s fifth largest Coca-Cola bottler and a member of the Swire Pacific group of companies. Operating across global markets spanning Asia and the United States, sustainability at SCC is both critical and complex—demanding technical expertise and sensitivity to local and regional contexts. SCC has risen to the challenge with its “Our Choice, Our Future!” strategy, aiming to achieve more sustainable development for Planet, Product and People.
SCC has rapidly expanded since establishing its sustainability strategy in 2019—entering four new markets, adding 13,000 team members and selling over 300 million more unit cases per year. As the business has evolved faster than ever before, so too have its sustainability-related impacts, risks and opportunities.
SCC was challenged to understand how its sustainability priorities should evolve to meet the needs of a growing, international business—not least, how a robust and technical global strategy should address environmental, social and economic contexts across diverse markets, from Laos to the United States.
And throughout this period of change, SCC needed to continue to communicate its sustainability performance and ambitions consistently, credibly and compellingly—accounting for new data, new stakeholders and new expectations.
SR has proudly supported SCC’s sustainability ambitions over multiple years of international expansion.
We began in 2022, helping SCC benchmark its sustainability strategy and reporting against other bottlers within The Coca-Cola System and FMCG leaders.
In 2023, we developed actionable recommendations to enhance SCC’s sustainability strategy, reporting and communications backed by insights from SCC’s first Sustainable Development Expert Panel, an independent advisory group engaged by SR comprising leaders in government, business, academia, and media.
In 2024, we delivered SCC’s first double materiality assessment—defining sustainability priorities through the lenses of financial, environmental and social impact. This involved extensive desk research and a global stakeholder engagement process with 39 internal and external stakeholders, including in-depth interviews with employees, business partners and representatives from NGOs and industry associations covering Hong Kong, Mainland China, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
SR delivered the results of SCC’s first double materiality assessment to the C-suite in an engaging Scenario-based Workshop, making the business case for sustainability in terms that resonate with senior management. Hypothetical scenarios—grounded in stakeholder engagement insights—took leaders through the real-world impacts of sustainability at SCC and the implications for its business performance and brand.
The result: a clearly defined set of strategic sustainability priorities and near-term actions to address them, backed by individual commitments from senior leaders spanning SCC’s departments, from supply chain, finance and strategy to human resources, communications, recruitment and more.
Over the years, we’ve packaged SCC’s achievements in three annual sustainability reports. Our reporting advisory work has covered rigorous data review, copywriting and alignment with sustainability reporting standards—including SCC’s first disclosures in line with the updated GRI Standards in 2022 and IFRS S2: Climate-related Disclosures in 2024—alongside compelling storytelling in the form of impactful hero case studies and standout visual design, all delivered under one roof.
